Willie Harper's time recording with Sansu Records is a fascinating chapter in the history of soul music. Born and raised in New Orleans, Harper was a talented singer and songwriter who first caught the attention of Sansu's legendary producers, Allen Toussaint and Marshall Sehorn, in the mid-1960s. Together, Harper and the Sansu team created some of the most memorable and beloved soul records of the era with their lush arrangements, infectious grooves, and Harper's soaring vocals (included here in Harper's own "Here Comes the Hurt Again" and fresh spins on classics like 'Why You Wanna Do It Devil'). These songs feel as relevant and vital today as they did when they were first recorded and are collected here for a truly immersive and transcendent experience that transports you to not only to the true era of classic soul music but to a place in history and cultural significance that's impossible to ignore.
