One of the great Puerto Rican salsa groups active in the mid to late 1960s, El Combo Moderno had the advantage of having the direction and arrangements of tenor saxophonist and flautist Freddie Miranda, who on their first album - released in 1966, provided the arrangements for songs such as "Con La Mano Arriba," "Guaguanco de los Indios" and others, which became bona fide hits in Puerto Rico, New York and beyond. These songs and others were buoyed by the great vocalist Sammy Gonzales who solidified Freddie's great arrangements. Using the same formula, El Combo Moderno's second album, Que Jelengue!, released in 1968, further cemented their status among fans of Boogaloo, Guaguanco, Mambo and Bolero. With this exclusive remastered release of their rare classic second album, a new generation of fans will surely be drawn to their infectious sound.
