Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (Criterion Collection)

In 1970, Yukio Mishima (Ken Ogata) - postwar Japan's most estimable man of letters, and a fervent nationalist led four members of his personal militia in a raid upon a Tokyo army base in a bid to reinstall the Emperor as head of state. Writer-director Paul Schrader's ambitious effort intersperses dramatizations of the author's major works with chronicles of his life and of the failed coup that ended with his ritual suicide.
