Focusing on the misadventures of confirmed bachelor Bill Davis, played by Brian Keith (The Parent Trap, Hardcastle & McCormick), who suddenly finds himself the guardian of his brother's orphaned young twins named Buffy and Jody (Anissa Jones and Johnny Whitaker) and older sister Cissy (Kathy Garver). The children adjust to living in an upscale, high-rise New York apartment with their architect uncle, who enjoys dating beautiful women as housekeeper-butler Mr. French (Sebastian Cabot) helps look after the tight-knit family.
