There is hardly a more fitting title for the new Xasthur compositions than "Inevitably Dark". Darkness is the element that holds all the tracks together despite the fact that they are expressed in a multitude of genres, which even includes black metal. This time. Be warned: this album is neither meant as a return to black metal of mastermind Scott Conner, even though he does this time, nor a guarantee that it will happen again next time - although, he might. Conner has used black metal, dark ambient, acid folk, doomgrass, and other genres to express what he has seen and felt, as well as a way to find his own sound or style at a point in time - for example when he was without a steady home and often living in hotels or cars. His insights into the underbelly of the American dream are reflected in the lyrics of "Inevitably Dark", which are there even though there is no singing on the album. Conner recorded all the tracks of "Inevitably Dark" live and by himself, which might make it sound coarse to modern ears, but it is just the grit and stain of unfiltered reality. Xasthur were originally conceived by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Scott Conner in California, USA in the year 1995. The project started out in the vein of bleak black metal in the tradition of the Nordic second wave. Over the course of nine albums and a host of split-singles, EPs, and occasional demos, Xasthur's individual, particularly depressive style became highly regarded within the extreme genre. In 2010, Scott announced the end of Xasthur and returned with an acoustic dark folk project under the banner of NOCTURNAL POISONING. In 2015, the American artist returned to the name Xasthur, but insisted that his black metal days were over. With "Inevitably Dark", Xasthur have partly lifted the self-imposed ban on black metal, simply because Conner felt like it and therefore did it. This double-album is not written to serve any genre purpose, but foremost a piece of musical darkness and self-reflection.

Genre: Heavy Metal

Label: PROPHECY

Label: PROPHECY

Genre: Heavy Metal

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0821/8142/3397/files/xasthur-inevitably-dark-double-record-album-vinyl-lp_z04Wk.jpg?v=1786601460
xasthur-subject-to-change-record-album-vinyl-lp
Xasthur Subject To Change - Record Album - Vinyl LP

Subject To Change

Discover the latest album from Xasthur, titled Subject To Change. With the first couple of rehearsals from '97 lost or stolen, there were a few between '97 and '99 that were saved and compiled. By 2013, Scott created a CDR containing those rehearsal tracks - reported as 200 copies having been created, however less than 100 were ever made available. With Scott on guitar and/ or drums, and aided by nameless musicians directed by Scott, the rehearsals were recorded on a cassette walkman at his home. The outcome of these recordings are very raw, dirty, lo-fi, live demo tracks, mostly instrumentals, with tracks 5 and 6 featuring vocals [by an anonymous helper]. All potential band members were soon dismissed. Today, Scott and Prophecy Productions unleash this excavated artifact. As if channeling the intense atmosphere of Neil Gaiman's novel "American Gods" and later David Lynch movies, mastermind Scott Conner captures the vacant stares of opiate addicts, hungry eyes of the homeless and dispossessed, the endless horizons of the Midwest, rain dripping mountain forests as well as urban nightmares of the rust belt. This album captures the darkest sides of the USA into a feverish, soul-troubling compilation of 21st century Americana.

Key Details:

Genre: POP

Label: LUPUS LOUNGE

Release Date: 07/09/2021

Genre: Pop

Label: LUPUS LOUNGE

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0821/8142/3397/files/xasthur-victims-of-the-times-artbook-hardcover-2-disc-cd-album_OOT2N.jpg?v=1790121702
xasthur-subject-to-change-digipack-packaging
Xasthur Subject To Change (Digipack Packaging)

On the ninth full-length with the tell-tale title of "Subject to Change", Xasthur took a musical leap of faith: Mastermind, multi-instrumentalist, and singer Scott Conner abandoned black metal as a form of musical expression for the time being, and turned to something stylistically rather comparable to acid folk and neofolk instead. Keeping the minimalistic approach of his previous albums, but embarking on a long journey through the dark underbelly of the American dream, Conner created his own brand of dark Americana. Xasthur were originally conceived by Scott Conner in California, USA in the year 1995. On his so far latest album, "Inevitably Dark", Xasthur have partly lifted the self-imposed ban on black metal, simply because Conner simply did like he felt.

Tracks:

1 Holding Yourself Hostage

2 None of Us

3 Traffic in Seclusion

4 Shit Creek

5 Proven to Be Broken

6 Trespassing on Your Own Land

7 Parole Fearing

8 Turning Tricks

9 Some Voices

10 Down on Their Luck

11 From the Inside Looking in

12 Share the Poverty

Genre: Rock

Format: CD

Released: 2023-10-06

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0821/8142/3397/files/xasthur-subject-to-change-digipack-packaging_krWka.jpg?v=1790361527
