As far as B-3 Hammond organ is concerned, Jimmy Smith is the greatest ever at that instrument. Like the best recordings of the greatest period for improvisational jazz that lasted from about 1950 to the late 1960's, The Sermon is only one example of the numerous sessions that many top notch players gathered for, taking turns as leaders and sidemen. On The Sermon, Smith is accompanied by the likes such as Kenny Burrell, Lee Morgan, Lou Donaldson, Tina Brooks and Art Blakey. It was produced by Rudy Van Gelder for Blue Note, and was Smith's fifteenth album in three years. The Sermon is a bebop-hardbop masterclass and at least a decade ahead of it's time.

Key Detail 1: Genre - JAZZ

Key Detail 2: Label - VINYL PASSION

Label: VINYL PASSION

Label: VINYL PASSION

Genre: JAZZ

Genre: Jazz

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0821/8142/3397/files/jimmy-smith-sermon-record-album-vinyl-lp_q8gXl.jpg?v=1786161532
jimmy-smith-midnight-special-record-album-vinyl-lp
Jimmy Smith Midnight Special - Record Album - Vinyl LP

Midnight Special

Discover the vibrant sounds of Jimmy Smith in this exciting record album. If you know someone who says they don't get Jimmy Smith, just play them this album. It is consummate Hammond B3 playing with the added vibrancy of Lalo Schifrin's arrangements for big band. 'Basin Street Blues' eschews 1960's sophistication, while the appropriately super cool 'Delon's Blues' is dedicated to the French actor Alain Delon, who Smith had befriended while on tour in Europe in 1963. Reviewers upon both the album's release and since have been somewhat patronizing in accusing Smith of being 'too commercial,' as though this is some kind of crime and if he were a real jazz artist he would avoid such a thing. This is a joyful, fabulous album that probably got more people listening to jazz than many of its contemporaries.

Label: VERVE

Label: VERVE

Genre: JAZZ

Genre: Jazz

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0821/8142/3397/files/jimmy-smith-cat-record-album-vinyl-lp_uq9cL.jpg?v=1787268874
jimmy-smith-bashin-record-album-vinyl-lp
Jimmy Smith Bashin - Record Album - Vinyl LP

Bashin': The Unpredictable Jimmy Smith

Vinyl LP pressing. Originally released as Groovin' at Smalls' Paradise Vols.1 and 2. Jimmy Smith's unparalleled skills with the Hammond helped to popularize the electric organ as a jazz and blues instrument, and he recorded prolifically during his long career. A perennial poll winner since the late '50s, Smith redefined the instrument. His new sound utilized the first three draw bars and the percussion feature of the Hammond B-3. Recorded live in 1957 at the Smalls' Paradise club in New York, this LP showcases Smith in a trio format backed by guitar and drums.

Label: IMPORTS

Label: IMPORTS

Genre: JAZZ

Genre: Jazz

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0821/8142/3397/files/jimmy-smith-groovin-at-smalls-paradise-double-record-album-vinyl-lp_cTZ17.jpg?v=1787600850
jimmy-smith-first-decade-1953-62-4-disc-cd-album
Jimmy Smith First Decade 1953-62 - 4-Disc CD Album
Jimmy Smith was one of the first musicians to use the Hammond organ in jazz and popular music, taking it up in 1951 and establishing a formidable reputation in Philadelphia, before coming to prominence with his 1956 appearances at New York's Café Bohemia., followed by dates and Birdland and the 1957 Newport Jazz Festival, cementing his place as the pioneer of the Hammond in jazz and R&B. After occasional recordings early in the '50s, he recorded regularly with his own trio from 1956, and this collection chronicles that first decade of his career as he effectively established a sub-genre within popular music, recording prolifically for Blue Note while touring regularly, becoming a favourite with club audiences, who enjoyed the crossover feel of his music, incorporating contemporary rhythm and blues styles with sophisticated bop influences, as he used the organ to create a group sound in what became a familiar trio line-up with guitar and drums. This great value 4-CD set, includes tracks from most of his significant sessions and albums along with some 'live' recordings, and it provides an excellent overview of both the best-known and perhaps less familiar work from the formative decade of a career that lasted half a century, and is a great introduction to one of the influential and innovative figures in jazz and R&B in the post-war era.

Label: ACROBAT

Genre: Jazz

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0821/8142/3397/files/jimmy-smith-first-decade-1953-62-4-disc-cd-album_HwxY8.jpg?v=1789150440
jimmy-smith-the-sermon-blue-note-tone-poet-vinyl-series-180g-lp
Jimmy Smith The Sermon!
